Albino Scarlet King

dystopian Feb 13, 2007 08:20 PM

At long last, a new picture (taken today) of the albino Scarlet King collected in Florida last year. Apologies for the image quality though, as my camera's a bit dated.

He's an aggressive feeder on live pinks, and has grown nearly two inches in just under a year. That he is thriving would indeed be an understatement.

Not much else to say. Simply the most beautiful snake that I have ever seen.

Very very nice. Wish I had one of those.

Breeding plans?

Get that snake together with TonyD (poster on this forum) and you guys might start a new interest in morph scarlet Kings.

BTW, if you plan on breeding it this year please contact me.

The last think I need is another small tri color project and that includes my hypos. Truely both animals should be in the hands of someone who is interested in getting the projects up and running.

That's pretty cool that it's a male also, as it can produce hets(hopefully) to his hearts content!!!LOL......What county was it from??......................................Doug

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments thus far.

As for breeding plans, well, they've all but stalled for the moment. So many unrelated personal factors have come into play that the time just isn't there.

However, with any luck some females from the same locale ('central Florida', not certain which county) as this guy will soon be in the mix. Looks like next season then for hets, and perhaps an albino or two (should one of the new females prove to be a carrier).

Attached is an image of one female already lined up, though no locality info is available for her (other than just 'Florida').

Any other comments or questions are most welcome.

Great snake, it would be great to locale the snake, as one may have a better chance of zeroing in on a carrier. Is the other female on mice yet?

Yep, the female (second image) is on live pinks as well. Not quite the appetite as the albino, but a consistent feeder nonetheless.

Does anyone else find that when it rains it pours with new morphs?

There went from being no morph scarlet kings to now having a hypo and an albino in the same year.

Same thing with albino and axanthic blackhead pythons popping up within months of each other.

Maybe its just random coincidence, but ...

dystopian Feb 14, 2007 06:29 AM

Yeah, I've noticed as well that when it rains (morphs), it pours.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if another Albino Scarlet suddenly materialises out of 'thin air'. Par for the course, but so it goes.

For my part, it was seeing those pics of the hypo that compelled me to post some images of my own. Perhaps the same holds true for other similar instances. All it takes is one person to shake the tree...

It is a great looking animal for sure. The time and effort to raise the little ones to breeding size will be a bit more than for most colubrids, huh?
Now if we can get the German guy who produced full striped ones (he worked on some aberrancies from mine and it paid off) to chime in....
He keeps to himself unfortunately.
I had hoped he would see this amel.

Thanks again for all of the kind remarks.

In answer to the few who've inquired, this snake was not collected by me, but was found by a friend of mine.

I just don't have that sort of luck...

And finally; Striped Scarlets?! That would be an amazing addition to this project!

Do you have any images that you might be able to share of these and, likewise, are you aware of any that have made their way back to the U.S.?

Email me privately if need be.

found it, then dont you have exact locale data..?, very cool snake. Is this the same albino that was found by a guy doing yard work in his yard..?. Thanks for sharing the pics, also, at one time there was another hypo scarlet, the type of hypo that makes the dark bands very light brown-(like light colored hypo hondurans) its in a reptiles magazine from years ago and pictured with a normal, the picture is on my snake room wall, very neat looking.
