Tuesday PICs

Jeff Clark Feb 13, 2007 08:29 PM

This first one is Jari. She was imported in 1992 and was very thin and rough at that time. Last year she laid her best litter ever of 20 or 21. In this PIC she is the heaviest she has ever been and she was bred a couple weeks ago.

This is Santarem. I posted PICs of him last month. He was born here in 2003 and looked normal for his first 18 months. Since then he has lost much of his red pigment.

This is a close up of him showing the light colored scales just inside the markings on his back. When I saw the ad for the calico BRB in the classifieds I thought of these scales on this snake. Many BRBs have some degree of this effect but the one in the classifieds is an extreme example.

This next one is Sunkist. He was born here in 1998. Both parents were plain mahogany phase BRBs with limited crescents. Looking aty parents can help to pick the best babies but there is plenty of variation within a litter. Sorry for the focus in the second PIC. I would have deleted it but I like seeing a tongue shot like this.

These next two are half sisters. They were from the same mother. One was in her 1999 litter and the other from 2001. Both of these females have been good breeders.

This is one of my 2004 females.

This is my largest male Peruvian Rainbow, Epicrates cenchria gaigei. I got him from Burgundy Reptiles at the Orlando Expo in 1998. At least I think it was 1998.

These are two of my Surinam Redtails. The one in the front is a male I got as a baby in 1998. The one behind him is a 2000 female. He weighs 18 pounds and she weighs 40 pounds. She has been bred by another male and hopefully is gravid. This behaviour waiting with head at the top of the flowerpot usually indicates that they are hungry and may indicate that she is not gravid. We shall see.

Jeff, I would have to say Jari is real nice and Mr. Santaremo speaks for himself, but Sunkist and the second pic of the two half sisters are beautiful and really liked the oranges. Thanks for sharing the pics

Great snakes Jeff. I just do not know what to make of Santarimo (sp?). Have you ever seen anything like this before? You say he did have normal neonate coloration with red pigments? Really strange. It will be very interesting to see how his progeny turn out.

bunch of BRB's. Jari get's me more hopefull for my Eve, she's pretty skinny herself, she did eat last night.

Santarem is really cool. I have one I'll try to get some pics of eventually that was really red and has some browned out areas. Still mostly really red.

Good luck with all your pairings.

I did see one of your other posts that gave me an idea for next year. Putting my males together w/out females prior to the breeding season to get them primed.

great looking snakes, especially love the oranges. Have you bred the one that lost pigment? As the previous poster said it would be very interesting to see if it is genetic and if so whether it is a mutant gene or something more akin to the kind of adult color phases you get with suboc's.

Either way good luck with those pairings and let us know how they go.

Sean,
...He is in with two of my very different looking females but so far I have not seen any courtship.

I'm a sucker for those high white sides like Jari is showing in her pic.
