Need some help with hatchling enclosure.

pfan151 Feb 14, 2007 08:46 AM

I am planning on picking up 2 hatchling in Daytona so I want to start figuring out what the best cage would be for the babies. I am looking for something that would be large enough to last for about 1 year or so. Does anyone sell premade cages cages for hatchlings with the heat all ready to go? I had a GTP about ten years ago and she did very well but I had to sell her due to college so I am not a total newb with GTP's, but I am sure there is a lot more out there for them now than when I last had them. I am not too concerned about how the cage looks. I mainly just want some thing that is easy to heat properly and holds humidity well. I am currently thinking of using 2 of the smaller exo-terra cages with the top mostly sealed. Would that work well? If so, what is the best way to heat it? Thanks for any help.

for two hatchlings my preference would be to house them in sterelite containers, mainly 6 qt's with belly heat using a simple heatpad. To keep humids up just spray at least three times a day heavily.

Misting 3 times a day seems like a lot to me? I would think using a sterilite the humidity would stay pretty high because of having little ventilation? I was really hoping to be able to use 2 of the 12"x12"x12" exo-terras with the top sreen covered if possible so I could actually see them without disturbing them too much. I am just worried whether or not heat tape across the bottom will be sufficent to keep the temp up. The room they will be in stays around 75 degrees. If the exo terra won't work I will go with the sterilites but I was hoping to avoid that if possible.
