Everglades kayaking trip question

reptilespawn Feb 14, 2007 10:52 AM

Hey guys,
my wife and i are going to the everglades national park for our anniversary this year. We are going the third week in April.

My question is mainly for the people who live there or have been there. What is the likely hood that we will get to hear or see the alligators bellowing in april? We have been wanting to experience it for about 10 years, and are just now getting to where we can go and do it.

Also anyone who can give their experiences with a camping/kayaking/canoeing trip there will be appreciated.

thanks
Michael and Cara

I am quit sure you will see Gators! Maybe if your lucky you might see some acutus.

A friend has a similar day planned out, possibly at the same place and he says that we will see tons of Acutus.

I'm not sure of all of the details, I just know you can rent kayaks, row boats, canoe's, etc.. The place we are going to is in or near Miami and its like $15 or $20 per person

We already own our own kayaks. possibly going to camp out at a different spot every night. everything I have read says that we will see gators and the crocs. Just really looking for the mating calls.

we are wanting to start our first camp at the East Cape camping area then take Bear lake canoe trail possibly go around the coast to alligator creek. haven't fully decided on our itenerary. might even start at Chokoloskee and head up the Lopez river. either way will hit whitewater bay. have a few ideas set up now. I will need to pick one. gotta get another gig of memory for my camera though.

Sounds like fun!

You can get mating & distress calls from crocodilian.com, but I dont think you will need them this time of year the animals are sluggish and spending a lot of time trying to sun so you should get some nice viewing.

I think you misunderstand me. I am wondering if the bull alligators are bellowing at that time of year. i know it is the begining of their breeding season and I want to hear and see them in person. Is any mating behavior generally going on in mid to late april?
