Dwarf Burms

ronald_durst Feb 14, 2007 09:46 PM

I was jus adoring the amazing beauty of a burmese. Ive seen them many times at shows and elsewhere. The only reason i havent been interested in getting one is because of the size. But i jus remebered seeing somethin about dwarf burms. Anyone got anything on that? Links to breeders? Thanks

Dwarf burms have an amazing pattern, far superior to any of the morphs or 'wild type' pattern of a normal burm.

They tend to be paler between the saddles as well.

I have a pair of 2003 CB animals (i'm in the UK) I know that there are a few in the states and have a feeling that there has been some success with captive breeding. At least two owners post on kingsnake - trawl down through the old posts and you'll come across them.

At the moment there are still very few in the trade and they have an associated price tag, I doubt though that it will be too much longer before we have dwarf morphs.

One thing is the temperament though - I am yet to speak to anyone else that has one that doesn't have a ratehr fiesty temperament.

I have a pair; both with great temperaments. The female is now over 6 foot and has never once bitten me. She is cranky when in shed so I just leave her alone during those times. Received a bite once from the male but only because I messed up and he missed the mouse. They are never aggressive (except towards mice). I can reach in and take them out without a hook but sometimes touch them with it so they know it's not feeding time. They are captive bred and are a couple of my all time favorite snakes.

The dwarfs are amazing, most do have a nasty temperment. We have 2.3, one of the males is a wild caught, the other 4 were captive bred in Japan. One of the females is just as sweet as can be, the other four can be pretty nasty at times. We are hoping with captive breeding we can pass the "sweet" gene along.

The wild caught male has bred to a normal sized albino granite and a normal sized leopard (green labyrinth) this year. We are not completely sure what size they will be, we suspect that they will be about half the size of a normal (10-12 feet). To our knowledge, we are the only ones breeding the morphs into the dwarfs at this time. If there are others, please let us know.

Hi All,
We had the second group of these animals in captivity and have been fortunate enough to breed them.
Presently we have 1 gravid female who is due to lay soon.
We also have 7 captive bred (by us) babies that are over 2 Years old now. The largest is around 2.5 pounds and the twins we had born at less than 30 grams are now only 450 grams (around 1 pound in US speak).
We also bred a normal albino male to two dwarf females and have 6 of those babies that are 18 Months old.
Because the female was the dwarf their size seems predisposed to a smaller size. We do not know how big they will get, but at the moment they are showing similar growth rates to the true dwarfs.
Temperament- well still a bit fiesty but the older group are pretty good now and can be freely handled.
