I love this site. I have SO many questions, I do not know where to start...

I guess first, I received this 2yr old male in trade for a Tree Boa that I had and I am not sure what he is exactly. I was told pastel, but when I browse the classifieds, I am not so sure.

Any input appreciated.

The subspecies part is easy, it's a matter of counting scales. There will be some people who say they can tell by looks, HA HA. As for as what mutation it is I'm not going there. To many opinions and not enough science. That is one nice looking snake.

congrats! It's a Colombian bci or 'common boa'. You don't need to count scales to tell this though. Just look at those saddles, the shape of the head, the lack of color on the sides of the tail etc. It has a lovely color and a nice amount of reduced black everywhere including all up the sides, making it a nice pastel in my eyes, and a nice colorful pink one at that. Look on the boaphile site at the pastels there, you will see some like this one. He had a lot that resembled this one last year for sale that were het albino too.

Good luck,
Caden

You should back up a page and read the post on Sharp Strain misconception, The post by MiamiExotics and Boaphile might help

I did read it though it was on this page and I read the whole last page for nothing. Next time how about a link? Whatever you decide next week a Colombian is, that snake will still be one. If you want to argue about whether Colombians are bcis or bccs I am not interested.

I didn't decide it was anything. Just trying to help someone to determine that, the right way. There is a reason we use a know zoological listing with set standards. You can choose to ignore that if you want to. But then you run the risk of people thinking what ever you post is not based on fact but just an uninformed opinion.
