what kind of rat snake is this?

superdave1781 Feb 15, 2007 04:09 PM

Hello everyone...someone posted this pic in the general forum and I want to know what it is...I recently got one just like it, but the former owner just said it was a ratsnake. Does anyone know which ratsnake it is, and if this color phase is called simply albino or anything else. Thanks!

If it's the one in the post by "izora" and titled in reference to a Pole,....that is what's known as a "SNOWCORN". And yes, it is an albino(amelanistic), but it goes a little beyond that...it is comprised of not one, but two genetic mutations...It is amelanistic(no black pigment), and also is "anerythristic"(no red pigment)....a cornsnakes coloration is very basically made up of mainly two colors. When you take the red away, you have an "anerythristic" corn. And when the black/brown is absent, you have an "amelanistic"(albino) corn.....Take both colors away, and you produce the double-mutation known as the "Snowcorn" which is both, neither red, or black!!,...here is a closeup of the head of a "Snowcorn"......best regards,...............Doug

wow, yeah your right. I didn't think it looked enough like the snowcorns that I'd seen before, and the saddle pattern is different than that of a regular corn. But after you said it was a snowcorn, I searched images and did find some listed as snowcorn that looked like mine.

and without a doubt a snowcorn. I waited for a very long time before I decided on getting a snow corn, but finally broke down and couldn't resist anymore. I chose him because he was bubble gum pink when he was born. In addition to Doug's post, you should check out other color morphs of these animals. They have the typical regular snow corn, then pink and green, yellow, green and now they have champagne and i think a couple others, all of which are absolutely stunning animals as they grow.

Frosty is a sub adult and still has his pink tint from when he was a baby, but it's slowly fading now that he's getting girth on him.
