lateralis breeding ??????

johnnyblazekfd Feb 15, 2007 10:37 PM

I just recently recieved a small free order of lateralis along with my order of dubias. I dont know much about them yet. I dont see any dimorhism in them yet(either all females or all nymphs) but definitely no adult males. I am seeing egg cases though. Do they still lay them even if there are no males? And if so,are they infertile? If fertile, how long does it normally take for them to hatch. thanks for any feedback.... Jon Runde

If you go to www.blaberus.com/FORMgallery1.htm and click on the photo of Blatta lateralis you will see the difference in the sexes. The males are the narrow reddish ones with the long wings and the females are the ones that are wider and darker.

I never figured out the hatching of the egg cases. Mine laid lots of them but I didn't seem to get that many babies. I am guessing there was something wrong with temps, humidity, or somehting. Anyway, I didn't have much luck feeding them off either as they are so fast and tend to hide. My animals won't eat anything that isn't moving but these seemed to intimidate them.

I prefer the dubia hands down!
