Question re breeding:

kellybee Feb 16, 2007 06:31 AM

OK so Yoshi is glowing, literally.

I'm a bit kerfuzzled about Yoda though. His first week out of brumation he was head bobbing, he's been awake for like a month now and not a sausage since then.

I wonder, was he maybe just being territorial over his tank (Do they display territorial behaviour where females are concerned??)

And is he likely to start becoming hormonal anytime soon, like whist Yoshi is still orange? It doesnt make the slightest difference whether it happens or not really, but I'm curious as to whether the colour change will help to influence his hormones, or is he likely to continue life in the slow lane as he has done for the last few weeks? He's more interested in digging than he is in her, lol

I understand they might be on different schedules, however his tail bulge is a lot bigger than the ever-rampant Arthur.

It's all so interesting, I would love to know what goes on in their little heads

I have no idea how long the colours will stick around for, and its not really impatience so much as curiosity.

I dont watch them really at all, I dont get home till 17:30 and they're just lazing around at that time of day, ready to go to bed

The second week of her having her blush color is when the male takes notice. Hey Kelly if your not there till late, than your not even sure if they mated , right?

Hhehehehe, that will give ya something to think about, LOL

LMAO you are absolutely right

I just figured if Arthur is still bouncing around trying to play with Elvis til 9pm then thats what Yoda would be doing too, lol

Here she is a today, she's changed shape which I find really bizarre, instead of being fat all over she seems to have shifted her wight to her belly, lol. Explain that one

She is carrying eggs, she will begin to get "larger" through the middle kido
Even if he did not mate with her she will still lay,(unless she would re-absorb them) so prepare a nesting spot for her, so she will know where to go to lay and not become eggbound in the coming weeks.

Do you mean to say she is possibly carrying eggs even after 3 days? Is it possibly she's been stashing them for a while now??

Stuart said only this morning that she looks a bit lumpy already, and I figured it was just the fact that she had eaten a lot of hoppers, my anoles look gravid when they've just eaten sometimes. So she can develop eggs even now? She's moved out of her regular lay box the last few days and into a corner at the back of the tank, where she has been digging, I guessed she had just got bored digging in one corner so went to look for another

I havent even got an incubator yet, lol

Well if she has been ovulating and showing her orange colors, and you are not around during the day to see if they have mated, BUT... you are noticing a bulgy middle than I would have a dampened nest for her, just so she knows it's there when she needs it, so to speak.

She appears a little lumpy in the pic, not major yet but has the look. Make sure shes well fed and gets plenty of calcium.

I know you're right, I just find it bends my mind to think she is carrying eggs so soon, and looking lumpier by the day without having mated, lol

I'm just trying to get an incubator sorted now, they are REALLY expensive here compared to US prices, and to get a 220V imported works out more once postage etc is added

Shocking, lol. We are looking into opening a shop sometime soon, so we'll be buying one eventually, but for the meantime I'll be making my own, wish me luck, lol

Thanks Again !!
