leopard tort coprophagy

simias Feb 16, 2007 11:29 AM

In my group of south African leopards, I have one female who is habitually coprophagic (poop-eater). She is perfectly healthy, but eats any and all droppings she can find of the other tortoises in her enclosure. After she finishes her daily meal of lawn grass and veggies, she will actually search the area for droppings, and sometimes sit behind her group mates to eat whatever pops out....

Should I consider this a health problem ? Other than panacur I have taken no precautions, yet.

Most Tortoises will eat poop if given the chance. Grazers especially, because they have adapted to do so. I wouldn't worry about it, unless obvoius problems arise from it
