Obesity

Roger Van Couwen Feb 16, 2007 12:33 PM

Hello,

I'm the one with a baby Ionides. I have a question: Should I let him free-feed, giving him as many mice per day as he wants? Right now he's big enough to eat two adult mice/day, and I think he's getting close to being big enough to eat three.

Thank you for your consideration,

Roger

I suggest you feed him some parakeets. Why you ask? Oh because it is hilarious. Anyway, regarding your question...

...feed him as much as he wants. As long as he is provided the correct thermo reg temps and appropriate enclosure he wont get obese.

Regarding his tail whipping from an earlier post...I suggest you pick him up several times a day and give him the old goochey-goo under the chin (you must say it out loud as you do it..."GOOCHEY GOO!!". I have never had one continue to whip or bite me after the ol' goochey-goo a few times.

good way to lose a finger. some monitors grow out of hostility and some dont. i don't ever force the issue. most adults are calmer than their adolescent selves. my 5 year old argus is a puppy dog (except at feeding) and the 2 young males chase me and tripod at me if i try to pick them up - yes, they chase ME who is over 6' tall and 195 lbs... without fear. i feed monitors daily and increase or decrease amounts depending on their condition. is he fat, thin, or appropriate?
