Tangerine hypo X Tricolor hypo

pc_allen Feb 16, 2007 03:24 PM

From what I understand, breeding the two could produce tang. hypos, tricolor hypos, and possibly intergrades between the two. My question is, is there any reason to avoid breeding two? E.g. to preserve the distinction between the two color morphs. I'd like to breed a tricolor hypo het albino to a tang. hypo het albino and go for some tricolor hybinos.
thanks

go for it sounds like a great idea. you would get some tri coloreds and some bi coloreds. sounds like you have your project and i say do it do what you like regardless.

Some people like to keep the color morphs seperate, others may not, this is a personal preference issue. But there is certainly nothing "wrong" if you bred those two colors at all, that's strictly up to you. The "tri-color", and the "tangerine" morph are both natural color variants in nature and are "co-dominant". Meaning it isn't a recessive gene. So you will(like you stated) get variable combinations, some "tri", some more "tangerine" looking, and some more in between the two. All these are possibilities, and what the previous parents of the ones you intend to breed will have a great deal to do with what the offspring could look like....you should more than likely get a nice variation of "looks" in the offspring they produce, but no way of predicting for sure. If you had some pics of the parents of the ones you intend to breed, you might get a better idea of what might happen...anyway,.....good luck!! ..............Doug
