separating eggs??????

nuthnbutbalz Feb 16, 2007 08:09 PM

i'm expecting my first clutch of eggs in about a week or so. being my first clutch i'm not experienced in separating the eggs. it wouldn't be very practical to leave them in a bunch for incubation so any advice on separating them would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
Dave

you will have to seprate the eggs pretty much right after they are laid. If you don't get to them in time, and they dry, they will be almost impossible to seprate.
Most people just keep the eggs together and incubate them as a clutch. No harm will come to them by doing so.

Last season I had a clutch of 10 eggs. They were to tall to fit in my rubbermaid and the hovabator. I used dential floss to separate the eggs.A gentle sawing motion works fine. Its a good idea to mark the top of the eggs first. Pencil works fine, just not to sharp. When you move the eggs you want them to stay in the same position. Good Luck Claude
