>>Hi. I recently purchased a baby Crestie from a show in White Plains about a month or two ago. Its about three months old now and I am awaiting the day I find out if its a girl or a boy. When I finally find out, I would like to purchase another crestie and breed them. I have done a lot of research on breeding, but I still have one question. Like I said my crestie¡¯s about three months old, and I was wondering if its going to be safe if I put another crestie in with it when its older. I have many other pets and some of them I know I cant put two of that animal together from the fear of them eating each other. I was curious if this was going to be a problem with my gecko.
>> Thanks for the help¢¾
Just make sure that they're both about the same size/age and of either oppostie sex or two females. Males WILL fight. I know of a couple of people who have two males together, but they've been together since they hatched, so they don't care. Just be sure and watch them for an hour or so after introducing, and watch them interact a few times so you know they're chill.
When you put cresteds together, you have to monitor eating to make sure one isn't bullying the other for food. I had two juvies together, and my smaller one was being bullied(and they aren't much different in size). Also, check for bite marks. They're little, and pink xD Kind of hard to spot, but just take each crested out every night and check them over to make sure everything looks normal. You may want to invest in a scale (they're really cheap from walgreens.com; make sure it measures in grams). This will help you monitor weights :] I currently don't have any cresties together (I'm waiting till they're all a uniform size) but I make sure to weigh them all once or twice a week.
Oh, and it's VERY important to make sure you have PLENTY of stuff for them to climb/jump/hide/etc. If they don't have enough places to hide, they will fight. These can be as simple as extra plants, pieces of bark (make sure to buy it pre-treated at a pet store or a pet supply company), rock hides, or even PVC piping. They just need to be able to feel secure. Opt for cluttered over the simple-and-clean--minimalistic-nice look. They'll appreciate it ;]
Good luck :]
