Is custom building a cage?

Petlover44 Feb 17, 2007 12:03 PM

I was wondering is there a good cage made for a show cage for my sub-adult peachthroat? Or if custom making one is going to be easier? I just can't seem to find a cage for sell that would be good for his needs at a resonable price! I want to give him the best show cage.

unfortunately there aren't any companies that make good commercial monitor cages. they all have to be made.

that's actually half the fun of monitor keeping - trying to provide a great living space for them.

Okay so is it better for a jobiensis to have the cage taller or longer? I seen this cage in a Reptile mag and I think it was made out of an old armoire and it looked really cool???

I would provide at least 5 foot tall and maybe 6 foot long for that species. They climb a lot and would appreciate some branches and hides up high. This is 10 foot by 5 foot tall enclosure for one of my argus males. All it is made from is plywood, 1x2" framing boards and a used window that cost $10.00. I lined the bottom with linoleum which will probably leak and rot the wood in the coming years - a trough or fiberglassing may have been wiser for the substrate, but too late now. These pics are pre-ton of dirt added from some time ago when i set it up:
