Growing like a weed !!

DMong Feb 17, 2007 01:30 PM

When I got this little guy on 5/9/06, he weighed only 12.3 grams..........when I weighed him today, he tipped the scales at an impressive weight of 107 grams!!!. That's not too bad. He was 15" long, and very thin when purchased, and he now measures 30" long.....in addition to the nice weight gain, he's also doubled his length in nine months. When I showed him to the guy I bought him from, he "flipped out" at his size!..........this of coarse isn't really anything uncommon, as hatchlings can grow at a phenomenal rate when given a good feeding regimen, especially during their first year.....but I thought it would be neat to post the photos to compare how much he grew...............Doug

how often do you feed?

DMong Feb 17, 2007 09:00 PM

For a good while(couple months) I was feeding him about every three days(not huge meals) so he would have a constant supply of calories. He now gets fed a good sized meal every week, sometimes twice a week. I wanted to make sure he wasn't too much smaller than the female he'll be bred to,as she is MUCH bigger than him. He will now be a more compatible size for her, and the chances of him being intimidated by her size are much slimmer now. Usually there is not a problem at all with males being smaller than the females, but it's always somewhat preferable that there is not too big a difference..............................Doug
