Tadpoles?

FloridaHogs Feb 17, 2007 07:21 PM

Doea anybody have any idea where I might be able to get some green tree frog tadpoles? I am thinking that day old pinks are going to be way to big for the twins that hatched, as they are only 2 and 3 g. I am open for other ideas to get these little Tri's to eat.

I would wait until a few weeks after their first shed to even try feeding, and then I would still use a f/t unscented newborn size pinkie mouse. they will be able to eat it! good luck and fill free to ask for help if you need to and I will do all I can to help you out.

Thanks Jim. I do have day old pinks, but the smallest twin is SO small. Only 2g, I thought the 5 and 6 grams were small!! I have found that mine always lose about 1g by the time they shed...that would be half the body weight! Good thing is both twins are very fiesty!

I do have a question...do most of your clutches all hatch within 36 hours of the first egg pipping? I still have three great looking eggs holding out, and the last baby came out on Friday. Wondering if I should go in after them, or wait a few more days. Today is 80 days at 80 degrees. The first one pipped last Wednesday.

I have never had a problem with the tri-hogs getting out of their eggs so I would let them be and I would bet that they will come out in less then another day or two. If the eggs look fine I think they are fine as well. Let me know how it works out. Good luck. As for the twins, I would just wait and see how they look after a month or so and if they don’t feed for you just give them as much time as they can take and if they start to seem weak or are going down hill then you can work on it more at that time.

I'm curious- couldn't you use a pinky head or a pink split in half lengthwise? I've heard of people doing that with very small corns. Even using tails to get them started.

I bought a pair of hypo syspila from Jeff Hardwick two years ago. Jeff force fed them mouse tails until they were big enough to eat a tiny pinkie head. When i got them they were on heads and I quickly found out that if I cut up the rest of the pinkie, they ate that too!
I have heard of many milksnake guys starting their tiny babies on mouse tails until they could take a pinkie head, or as I found out - pinkie parts.
Most people are really against scenting of any kind. I had a few tri color hogs two years ago that just would not eat. I tried tuna fish. I ate the tuna fish and then used the liquid to scent the pinkie head and had much success, Maybe as a last resort.
Wish you all the luck - twins are very cool.
