About Pseustes...

Royreptile Feb 17, 2007 10:42 PM

I realize that poecilonotus is not commonmly kept in the U.S. but for those who are familiar with Pseustes; could a pair of this species be kept together? If so, what would be an acceptable cage size? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have worked with Pseustes Sulphurius and Pocil%^$& or however it is spelled. Pseustes means bluffer or liar. Their personality is similar to that of Spilotes but they do not bluff they have more followthrough, they bite! Poci's do not get as long. They do cohabitate well.

LOVE that snake!

I saw the hatchlings from Costa Rica and I would buy them except I no longer have enough hours in the day. Anything captive hatched from Costa Rica is hard to come by and Pseustes are hard to come by and Pocil's do not come in very often from anywhere. Thank you for the compliment.....Bill

I'm going to see if I can get the money together before someone else buys them. What size cages do you use for your Pseustes, Bill?

Hmmm, must be something to the name "Bill" that leads one to the dreaded herp affliction!

Are Psuestes native to Panama. If so, they'll be on my hit list as I patroll the jungle while my wife inspects the progress of our home or is sipping on a drink w/an umbrella in it beach-side!

As I think I've already posted, I've already seen a huge Spilotes and a very full or gravid Boa - the latter was 20' from me right in the mangrove roots at low tide - no way I was going to wade through that bottomless muck for a closer view. "She" was
enormous!

Too cool Bill. Make sure you at least get some pics next time you're down there!

I spent some time in Gandoca, Costa Rica, which is very close to Panama (in walking distance)and there were Pseustes poecilonotus there. I didn't see any myself but judging by field guides they occured in the area. Thus, I'd imagine Pseustes poecilonotus would occur in Panama. If you find any let me know. I sure wish I could go herping in Costa Rica or Panama again; the herpetofauna there is amazing! Good luck!
