HELP! Frog With An Eye Infection!

frogger Feb 17, 2007 11:59 PM

My Whites Tree Frog seems to have an eye infection. I have had the frog for 7 years and she has been doing fine. Her eyes got a little bad a couple years back, but she has been doing fine. She could see to move around and catch crickets, didn't seem to bother her.

But lately, I noticed her eyes has a cloudy film over them. When she was trying to catch her crickets, she would miss completely or they would just crawl by without her noticing. It wasn't until they were almost in her face that she was able to catch it.

Now, I had another frog recently die of starvation I suppose, due to cloudy eyes. He became absolutely blind in both eyes and just couldnt get the food he needed. He suffered with the cloudy eyes for awhile, and just hit a dramatic turn for the worst in which is lost all his site.

I didn't know if there was any way to cure an eye infection for a frog. All I can say is that she is around 8 years old and her eyes look like they have a white film covering them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thanks to anyone who knows of a possible solution.

Yeah, basically. Hers is a little worse though, the white isn't as translucent on the eyes as that one.

I would suspect that the frog has corneal lipidosis then.. you would need a vet to confirm this though. This is most commonly seen in female anurans and is due considered to be dietary in cause.
