leo, possible burn victim?

fattiesnleos Feb 18, 2007 01:20 AM

hi everyone its been a long time since i have posted in here. any how i went to a new store today down here in san diego california. it was called reptile city and it is a great store and the owner is super nice. i noticed he had a leopard in there by itself and it wasnt in very good condition. i asked to look at it. i found that it was a she, she had shed stuck all over her feet and is missing most of her toes, and had a huge scrape/burn all down her back. he said some weirdo brought her and some other geckos in and just wanted to get rid of them. he said i could take her becuase he thought i could fix her. he also hooked me up with some crested gecko food and a plastic cage for her. i just wanted to say that they seemed great but i wanted to post the picture of this little girl.
she was on sand so i hope there is no serouis damage do yet. i put neosporin on her back and got the skin off her toes. she is now on paper towels and i hope i can bring her back.

to my surprise she really looks like a mack super snow and there is no yellow at all. can anyone second my opinion on this?

I'm up in Irvine..I know it's off topic, but does the store you went to carry Dart frogs at all?

yeah they had a lot! they also have dart frogs at LLL reptile they have stores in oceanside and escondido. it would be closer for you. however LLL is a good store but the one in san diego is really nice. they are right by Qualcom stadium, i think its called something else now though, the store is called Reptile City. im actually in the OC right now. :D

What do her eyes look like... are they all black? Mack Supers have all-black eyes, and the spots tend to form little lines.

I would DEFINITELY have a vet look at her, with that huge scrape being wide open you're just asking for infection. Keep her on paper towels for now, and change them out as soon as they are soiled. You can put a little neosporin (NO PAIN RELIEF!!! just the normal stuff) on her wound to keep it moist, and keep her tank very simple. Rubbermaid moist hide, and maybe some plastic hides that are smooth so she can't scratch herself up any more...

dont worry about anything i got the quarantine area all set up for her. i am also going to be monitoring her poops since she was on sand. if i dont see any poops or unhealthy poops in the next 24 hours i will take her to my vet. other then that there is neosprorin on her back and that is why it is all shiny.
yeah, i forgot about the black eye thing. she does not have black eyes but under that scrape it is hard to tell what she looked like. it does apear to be striped and thats what made me think mack super but obviously she is not a super because of the eye factor. however she does not have any yellow on her but it may be lack of vitamins or something and we will see in the next few days. i dont really care though i just wanted to help her. she also has bands on her tail like regular leos where as the super are born without stripes. but i will keep everyone informed.
this is a picture of one of my line bred snows compared to her, big difference in color. the pic of her also makes her look dull, she is really a lot brighter white.

I agree, not to much Neosprorin. Just a little on a Qtip spread real thin on the wound is plenty. If you apply to thick of a layer the wound won't be able to get any oxegen to breath & heal. Also the wound can hold in bacteria & lead to infection if to much Neosporin is applied.
Definently, keep the cage sterile & simple. Use paper towel in the humid hut & substrate for know.
Other then the scrape on the back, she looks like you can save her. Keep us updated on her condition. Good luck.

I do have to ask, what's in the pain relief Neosporin that's not good? Is it something bad for reptiles or something bad for burns? Just curious.
