etra digits

KURMA Aug 11, 2003 10:59 AM

I just noticed last night my male has a partial sixth digit on his front right foot. Not anything that bothers my but is this possibly a genetic thing passed on from his parents?

it could be genetic. IMO, you shouldn't breed it, if you planned to, incase it is passed on. even though having an extra toe isnt a big deal, like in dogs, breeding should be left for the best specimens. this way you get the best possible young.

If you have no idea if its gentic why not breed to aleast find out? I paid 200 bucks for himnd he is whats going to be running my breeding now. If I get 6 toed babies from him that another story but I got him froma very good breeder and a very very pretty 800 dollar male!

im pretty sure it is genetic, but i cannot say for sure. i've never heard of a gecko getting extra digits from fluctuating incubation temps. if you want to breed him, start with just 1 female, and if those babies come out good, your in the clear for more.

Thanks
That was my plan as only one will be large enough to breed soon. man I really hope its ok maybe the parents had too close of bloodlines or something? Some Genetic diversity may do the trick

Having only one extra digit is kind of unusual. If it had an extra one on each foot I think it would probably be genetic but I'm not sure about just one. On one of these pages there is a pick of a gecko with six toes on each foot. many people are actually born with six fingers and it appears to be a dominant trait.

In people, they say a sixth finger eans you are a witch. Maybe it is paranormal phase gecko.
