New Chahoua... Local?

Smith710 Feb 18, 2007 02:20 PM

Ok, this was sold to me as a Pine Island local... Either way it doesn't matter because I got him for $70. But I would just like to know what you guys think. He looks like a Pine Island to me, but this is my first Chahoua, and I'm definately not 100% sure. He's about 45 grams at the moment. Any responses would be great.

Nobody can tell what he is? I measured him and he's about 5 inches svl as well.

It is impossible to tell locality by appearance in Chahouas. Some species have locality types where individuals from the area look different from the same species in a different area, think Miami and okeetee cornsnakes.

Locality in other species where there is no visible difference needs to be backed up with import papers, that may be wrong anyway. After that it is just a matter of trust.

Ok, fair enough. Well I was told it was a pine island, so I guess I'll just call it a possible PI...

If you plan on breeding it to sell the offspring as pine island local at any point I would try to talk to the breeder and see if you can figure out it's geneology. That way if potential buyers have questions you will be able to answer them easily.

Otherwise, if it is just a pet I would say it's a nice looking Chahoua no matter where it's from.
