outside in the summer?

teaspoon Feb 18, 2007 04:01 PM

I bought a miami phase corn on saturday. She's about 16 or 17 inches long right now.
I have a large 6 foot long glass tank that I would like to keep her in during the summer that is outside on my porch. Its protected from rain and hungry racoons.
Because corn snakes are native to my area(northern virginia) I thought that the temperature would be right for her, but it gets very humid here, 80% humidity in the summer is normal. I havent found any care sheets that suggest that the humidity be this high.
Would it be safe for her to be outside in the summer?
Is the high humidity dangerous for corns, even though they're native to my area?

I suggest you keep her in inside during the summer. While they may be native in your state, it just seems more secure to keep them inside. while the encloser may be secure, snakes are escape artists. Hope I helped you a bit. If you have any questions you can e-mail me at ChondroGTP@AOL.com

I know this is an old post, but if the sun can reach the cage, you'll kill your snake. The glass will work as a greenhouse and temps are VEY LIKELY to get way to hot and cook your snake. This can even happen in the cold part of the winter in a small glass cage.

Keep the snake inside in the cooler house with a proper temp gradient - and away from too much light!
