Substrate... what's best?

I'm not too keen on paper (as functional as it might be). I'd like something more pleasing to the eye. Any ideas for a more naturalistic-looking tank?

Thanks.

In one tank, I use a bioactive substrate, topped off with some sphagum peat moss. It's naturalistic, helps with humidity & keeps the mold down.
The other one has coco fiber... but there's more of a molding problem...
With juvies, I would highly recommend paper towel - no impaction problem. My naturalistic tanks are for full-grown adults only.
If you want to try a bio-active substrate, do a google search for "bio-active substrate" & you should get a few sites with descriptions of how to start them.
