They're waking

FunkyRes Feb 18, 2007 11:46 PM

Just a few days ago - I spotted the first wild Sceloporus I've seen this year. Only saw one.

Yesterday, they were still not out in my neighborhood - but a spot I like to herp about 2 miles from my house had them all over the place (along with 3 skiltons skinks, a california alligator lizard, and a northwestern pond turtle).

Today - the sceloporus were out all over my neighborhood.

My kings are broomating in a room to themselves with heat shut off, window cracked, and door shut.

Today - my lavender cal king and my MBK were out hunting.
So I closed the window. And turned the thermostats back on.

They'll be copulating soon

LOL Funky..I didn't even notice you error till you pointed it out. Are you gonna breed the cali to the MBK?

no not THAT one

No.
The MBK is going on loan to a friend in Oregon who has a female.

I'm going to breeding:

WC LTC Antioch, CA locale banded male to CB amel banded female
WC LTC Redding, CA locale banded male to CB lavender banded female
Hopefully WC LTC Redding, CA locale banded male to WC Redding, CA locale banded female. I have to find that female first, though
Maybe I'll find her tomorrow or Tuesday.

I have one female that brumated that I'm not planning to breed, she's small. I brumated her because she stopped eating, so that seemed to be the best thing to do. Maybe I will though, she seems to have signifigantly grown over winter. Is that common, or is it just perception?

I just did a half-hazard measure of her.
She's about 29 inches.

She had a hookworm which was treated before she brumated so if a fecal float comes up negative, she's breeding.

Cool sounds like spring's getting ready to spring. You're in NorCal right? From what I've heard you guys've had a bit of rain. Always good herping out after the rains. I'm in SoCal and it's raining down here as I write so I'm looking forward to checking out some spots where I've laid AC. All I've found so far are toads, mice, a skink and a few sceloporus. Happy herping.

We've had one good rain spell earlier this month.
This has been an unusually warm and dry winter.

It looks like we'll get another chance to whack away at our rainfall deficit which, by the way, is still growing, since mid-February is close climatologically to the wettest time of the year, and we've gone another week without rain.

Rainfall to date at the airport is 15.85 inches, or 74 percent of the 21.53-inch normal. We're certainly in better shape, rain-wise, than we were at the end of the 34-day-long January-February dry spell, but still, we're hurting a little for precip.

Early last week they were predicting rain Sunday evening but that didn't happen. It's a dry year for us
