New female, and Jewel wants her!!!

buggzter Feb 19, 2007 09:32 AM

No pics yet - soon, I promise.

But we just got a little female yesterday - absolutely a female! lol! And we introduced her to both Spike and Jewel. Spike and her just climed on each other, but Jewel tried to bite her neck and get on top... He didn't brumate, but he was sure liking her! He's headbobbing since he got his first glimpse of her! On the other hand, she doesn't want any of it, and just bops around the cage chasing crickets and having fun...

While reading other posts, it seems that others' collareds are fairly active. My two males sit there most of the time and sun themselves (tho Jewel prefers to warm up over the heating pad under their rock hide), but don't do much. Jewel doesn't even go out to get crickets much: he waits for them to come to him! But when OUT of the cage, they sometimes will jump all over the place. (Spike likes to jump onto my daughter's little rocking horse!)

So, even if Jewel is a spaz, should I let him be with her, or should Spike get to be with her? What about if she gets colors - should she be put in with Spike now and Jewel then? Idano... I don't know if she was brumated or not, but she's eating as much as she can get down her gullet! She even jumps for them if they jump away!

BTW, is it not good to let some extra crickets in the cage for them to eat as they want? If the new girl (I think she'll either be named Desert Dawn or Grey Dawn... my daughter still hasn't picked) keeps wanting to eat like this, I want to let her! Thanks everyone! It's great to see all the new pics of everyone and see how they are all doing!

I do always have food in there for the feeders(cat food, bread, lettuce, etc), and I've seen the males eat first thing in the morning to just before "lights out." Thus I usually let them have some extra crickets in there. Plus, they like to hide from the lizards under the hide rocks and in the fake plant...

And the two males are active at times - running all around... they just prefer to veg out more than half the day... is that too odd? Thanks!

A new lil girl, that's great! Can't wait to see your new lady lizard

As far as crickets, I put them in and let them hunt. Just put a few hunks of greens/food in the tank at night, if there are any outlaw crickets roaming around while the collareds are asleep, they can eat the greens and not nibble the lizards.
