Hibiscus,

beccadvorak May 21, 2003 08:43 AM

Hi all,

We just went out and bought a big Hibiscus syriacus 'Minerva' bush and planted it in a large pot of topsoil. Around it we planted seeds from "Avalanche Red" and Pink Petunias. Is there anything besides limestone that we might dress the topsoil with for optimal nutritional value. If so, where can we get it? Also, is it just the flowers of the hibiscus and the petunia that can be consumed, or the leaves of the plants as well?

Thanks, and Best,

Becca

the whole shebang can be eaten, but the woody stems of the hibiscus will likely not be enjoyed. The leaves and flowers of each will definately be a big hit with all kinds of graze eating animals (our bearded dragons strip down hibiscus bushes so fast we rotate three different plants through their enclosure to get them a chance to recouperate a bit)
