Question on morphs-especially Bitis

Ryan Shackleton Feb 19, 2007 11:54 PM

Anyone know if there's ever been an albino Gaboon bred or discovered? It seems like there are more and more "new" albinos every year, I even saw a picture in an older snake book of an "albinotic" Russell's viper-just wondering if the trait has ever been found in a Gabby and what it would look like-on one hand you'd lose the colors they're known for, but it might be an interesting animal too.

I dont know if one has been found, but i would expect one to be a red pattern on white or yellow background. I would be a very cool morph.

meant to say IT would be a very cool morph. I dont think that I would make a cool looking albino. lol.

I don't know but I often dream of an Albino Rhino. IMO the best looking albinos are ones with a lot of pattern and diferent colors. Most Bitis would look reaaly good in the albino form.

I also need a black eyed leusistic Eyelash Viper so all you breeders get to work and get these things going asap. JK

Hmmm? come to think of it a Lucy Gaboon (or other Bitis) would not be to bad either. Seriously though, think how jaw dropping an albino Gaboon, Puff, or Rhino would be. Oooh, Albino parviocula. Now that needs to happen (some normal B. parviocula would be OK for now)LOL

There's been a couple of Amelanistic Puffs born stateside (they have since died (I forget the circumstances but it was a strange story) there were photos however. There has been a few Amel Gabonica over the years, one fairly recently. I think that recent animal was purchased by a German keeper. There was a Luecistic Eyelash offered a 10-12 years ago but it never came stateside as far as I know. (this is in response to the poster below who mentioned needing one)

There's been several Daboia russelli ssp. Amels Joe Fauci brougt one in a while back, it has since died unfortunantly. Also there's one in Mehrten's book.

Hope this helps.
