Timeless natural beauty.

jonellopez Feb 20, 2007 01:19 AM

Hi everyone

I was checking out Bob's awesome new site and I came across the Günther, A. C. 1893 Biologia Centrali-Americana that had the "original description of Lampropeltis leonis, based on a specimen from Nuevo Leon...illustrated by a line drawing, and clearly represents the leonis-phase morph of “thayeri” below.

It inspired me to take a quick snapshot of one of my 06 females that looks very similar to the 100 plus year old illustration. I thought it was just so cool. Here's her pic.

It really amazes me how natural beauty never fades just as nature inteded it to be. We could only imagine how the illustrated animal looked like as the artist created this classic thayeri illustration.

Just wanted to share. Hope you guys enjoy the pic.

Wow Jonel,

I have spent a tremendous amount of time this holiday weekend studying Bob's site also. I saw the same pic and was thinking the same thing except with this female from Mike Bodner. After seeing your pic though, I think yours is more accurate.

It's been really nice to have the kind of information Bob's site provides at my fingertips. It's really peaked my curiosity and renewed interest in the whole mexicana species/complex. There's always been a huge lack of even basic information on these beautiful serpents.

Bob...... I thank you and appreciate your taking the time to put this all together.

Chris:

Glad you liked the site...it's been great fun to assemble, and it's nice that all of you 'mex-heads' are finding it enjoyable!

Cheers,

Bob

Jonel:

That is an awesome little snake and you are lucky to get her. She does bear a remarkable resemblance to the holotype illustration...definitely cool to make that connection.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. If only I live in an area that has some nice natural backgrounds, boulders, and such it would have been a lot easier to take better pics.
