I got some stuff called "yesterday's news" which is recycled paper pellets (similar to what you have i think). I just got it ealier today actually and I put about 1/4" deep of bedding and some toilet paper in a pile to use as bedding. You can also try adding small amount to old news paper or shavings to be used as bedding/nesting stuff.
I use the real cheap toilet paper from the dollar store lol you know that uncomfortable stuff.

i shred newspaper in a shredder and it works great, i even take old clean rags for nesting. I wonder if newspaper wet, crumpeled and then dried is how they do that.?

"Have you hugged your snake lately?"
For the past 13 years I have used various shavings & wood pellets to save money. Now, I am completely disgusted with both the dust and odor of both.
This year I made the switch to newspaper pellets and have never been as happy with my colonies. Dust is approx 90-95% gone and odor is about 80-85% eliminated!
I don't see myself using shavings or wood pellets again.
I highly recommend yesterday's news for anyone with small to medium sized rodent colonies. Just make sure you include some strips of newspaper so the rodents can nest properly.

Pelleted paper bedding is better that your average bedding only because it has better odor control, more absorbant, and doesn't have any toxic chemicals like pine or cedar.
I made an extra top of a rat rack useing 1/2" hardware cloth to use "wash board" style with wet news paper. Just soak some news paper (don't use the glossy adds or real black pages, ball it up and press/rub it against the framed hardware cloth. I "catch" the grated paper in a concreate mixing tub (rat tub), fluff it and let it sun dry. Stir occationaly, season to taste and volia - instant bedding. I get my papers from my in-laws so it's all free. An added plus is that my 12 year old wants rabbits so I taught her how to make the bedding. Poof - now I do nothing!! This spring she is going to learn how to start the lawn mower!!! Kids are great!

That sounds like an awful lot of work and energy expended for what a shredder could do quite quickly. Newspaper doesn't work too well as bedding though.
It ends up looking and feeling like care fresh when it's finished. The time for making it is about 20 min after you've done it once. The long part is drying it out but that doesn't take much work at all unless it's real windy out..
I made a full 55 gal trash can full ( compressed ) in one day.
It cost $0.00.
Fill a smaller trash can up with care fresh - let me know how much it cost..
