Does anyone know a breeder that has baby C.B. Nile Monitors? Thanks.
CB Niles are few and far between.
There are only a small handful of people who have bred them
and I don't know if they do it continuously.?
99% of the baby niles out there are WC like savs since
they are so cheap. Dealers and shops can get babies for around
$10.00. Many are falsely sold or advertised as CB.
Don't mistake CB for captive ranched. Gravid females are collected and penned up until they lay, then when the eggs hatch they are collected and shipped.
Thanks for the response and to think about it, I did remember reading about Niles being falsely labeled as C.B. Do you know of any good breeders or online places that carry baby niles? I am having a hard time finding any web sites on Kingsnake that carry them. Thanks.
Good luck with your search!
Maybe you will get a response from some of the members that have bred niles.
Here is a pic of my ornatus I took over the weekend.
He/she is approx 3 months old, 22" - growing fast!

I noticed your ornate appears calm while being held. Did it start out that way or did it become calm. If you did something to help it to become calm I'd like to hear your method. Mine is about 2 months and has become calm in the cage and will now eat from my fingers, but deffinately does not want me to touch him.
thanks in advance.
Lots of time and patience, LOTS!!!
Trust me, he didn't start out calm. I purchased 3 so I could
have a few to pick from. Took them all to the vet for a check
and the treated with flagyl & panacure. Once they were all eating good and settled I started to work with them daily.
The other two (which I sold) actually had better temperments than this guy. However, he was just doing what a healthy baby should do. He was the dominant one from the get go and would boot the others off the log and shake his head. When his color started to emerge I changed my mind and decided to keep him since
I liked his color and pattern the best. Once I sold the other two I had more time to work with him. I still get an occasional
hiss and tail whip but have not been bit in weeks. He was quite a chomper! When I bring him out I don't hold or restrain him the whole time. He gets to roam in a partially blocked off room
and I have a spot lamp next to where I sit on the couch. He will bask there (next to me). The heat keeps him near me and he is learning that I am not a threat. He will crawl down on me when he's had enough and sometimes will sit on my lap or roam
around. I guess my point or thought is that I let him do what he wants (to an extent) and have made lots of progress with him.
I don't know of anyone that has bred niles in the last year. If I may ask, why do you want a nile over other monitors that are just a pretty and have a reputation for being calmer?

Although there are some just as pretty there are none exactly like niles, and that may be his favorite. Although people often don't realize what there getting into, others love them. Of course I could be wrong with him.
I want a Nile because that is the monitor I always wanted. I also have a perfect enclosure to house it as an adult so size isn't a problem. There are a lot of other nice looking monitors out there too. Which ones do you prefer over the Nile?
HAHA You are going to laugh but my favorite monitor is the dumeril monitor, but that doesn't have anything to do with looks. I think niles are some of the prettiest monitors. I think they are up there near peachthroats, blue trees, and some others when it comes to looks.
If you have the space, I say go for it and hopefully you can breed them.
