Fisher snake

hgiddings Aug 11, 2003 12:17 PM

I moved the furniture around this weekend so now the couch is near my rather large aquarium. I was letting the snake explore on the couch and it discovered the fish and got VERY excited. Anybody have similar experiences or comments? Also any feedback on properly socializing my P. regius? I don't really want it to be around a ton of people but I'd like it to be comfortable with my bf and one of my girlfriends who are frequent visitors. My girlfriend is experienced with reptiles and the snake doesn't mind being around her but it definately gets very excited in kind of an agitated way whereas with me it is very mellow. Suggestions? Comments?

i take one of my snakes every week to the pet store to pick up their dinner.if you do this make sure you put the mice/rat in the back of the car.

I don't think my snake is ready for the car just yet. The place I get food is in Providence. I'm still working on the walking around the room while holding the snake bit, as it seems to be afraid of heights. Some of my coworkers claim that their snakes LOVE going for car rides

You're in Providence? RI?

Affirmative. Well 20 miles south. Are you close by?

LOL...Living in Pawtucket, working in East Providence. Of course, if we're both in RI anywhere, we're close.

Do you go to Regal Reptiles in Providence?

Kikai Aug 13, 2003 01:34 PM

But of course! Sean has the best stuff, plus he is where I got my first BP. His place is a little scary... He's moving by the end of the month to a new place near the new building in Prov that looks all glass..?? I forget the name of it. It's the one right at the split of 95 and 195 that they just put up a while ago.

My friends think that place is scary but I think it's great. That's where I got Clove and where I get my hoppers. I got on the mailing list so I'll know where to go when they move. I like that big fat SA lizard under the counter. I hear there's some big herp show in Providence in January?

Kikai Aug 13, 2003 02:34 PM

It may be a repeat of the one they have at Hope Highschool. I'm on the mailing list, too, for when they move. There is also one coming up in New York again, as well as one in NH.
Have you ever seen them feed the gators in the pool?? Lol...last time we went, they were, and my 10 year old son was watching on the stool. Is the lizzy under the front counter a Red Tegu?
You going to PC, URI or Brown? Whats your major?

I've never been to a reptile show before but I'd like to go to one. I don't know what the lizard under the counter is, its obese, light-colored, and it was looking quite sleepy while I was purchasing my snake so I asked where it was from since I don't know much about lizards. I'm working on an MS and/or Ph.D (to be decided)at URI in Aquatic Pathology. I just moved to RI in June when I finished a BS in Aquaculture and then I got lonely and decided to get a P. regius and here I am.

Speaking of snakes and location.... you seem to know the gender of yours. Did you probe them yourself or did you get somebody around here to do it? I have decided I am most definately NOT learning to probe snakes but I want to know the gender of mine so I can stop calling it "it".

URI has one of the best Marine Bio courses on the east coast. I think only U of ME has a comparable curriculum.
NY was our first expo. Watch out!! Don't bring ANY money..LOL

Aquatic Pathology is pretty different from Marine Bio actually. I'm not even in that college I deal more with taking care of and preventing disease in cultured and commercial important fish and shellfish. The idea is that I'm going to be a fish doctor and eventually get a job teaching others about preventing disease in aquaculture and sustainability, so as to furthur expand the aquaculture industry. Won't comment on Univ. ME since I just left ME and avoid that school when possible. So as you can see fish are my vocation and all consuming passion but amphibians and reptiles are definately a fun hobby.
