WTF calcium suppliments anyone

monitorchow Feb 20, 2007 02:55 PM

I used to give my monitor calcium suppliments when he ate crickets and worms. Now my guy eats mice, eggs, turkey balls (thats balled-up ground turkey not @#$%@), sometimes earthworms. Ive been told by several people much more experienced than myself that on a mice/meat based diet the calcium in the bones will more than suffice. This is from several different types of sources. I even asked the vet and he basically said that grover shouldnt need them BUT added the disclaimer that it couldnt hurt.

So my question to you is: Do you people feed your carnivorous animals calcium and like suppliments? I have two huge containers full calcium and vitamin suppliments. If I should be, I could easily add it in.

Your vets right, when feeding whole food items(excluding insects) you do not need to add anything. But I have not found it to hurt either, or benefit. Sell the stuff to someone who needs it and by more mice.

Also, ditch the turkey balls(i didn't know they had them)They are of no value other then to you. Feed rodents, birds, fish if you want or any of the whole insects and crustations, snails, etc. Or depending of what monitor you have, snakes and lizards are readily consumed. Hopely roadkills and not live healthy snakes and lizards. Cheers
