Question about age in corns..breeding..

reptile_man7mm Feb 20, 2007 05:40 PM

A Local breeder here has a 14yr old okeetee true local WC. Snake is big, lovely colored, and pretty active. He was bred last year. My question is how much longer does this snake have left? Im gonna work a trade with him, i wont him for my female okeetee. Just not sure about how long ill have him around. Ive seen post about older rats and corns, and i know theres alot to determine health.

Just wont to hear some thoughts.

She deserves a man!

It is not uncommon for corns to live 20 plus years in captivity. For males I don't see why they cant breed the whole time. I think you would have a few good years of breeding left in him.

Snakes can breed their entire adult lives. There may be a reduction on fertility or clutch size, but corn snakes aren't animals that "shut off" reproduction once they reach a certain age.

Tim, I'm sure I've said it before, but that earthtone corn you have pictured is very pleasing to the eye. Normal corns come in a huge variety, and yours has a nice blend of natural colors. Did you raise that one up as a hatchling, or was she picked up from another breeder, or at a show? Thanks.

Thanks Steve. I picked up a pair from a local breeder. I was at his house, looking through hundreds of hatchlings, picking out "different looking" ones. For a long time I thought my earthtones were Carmel Corns, but then I realized that they're just interestingly-colored normals. My male isn't quite as nice as the female, but some of the babies they've produced have been really cool.
