Cracks in shell

bosco68 Feb 20, 2007 07:43 PM

Hello all,

Wanted to get some opinions/ideas on an issue. I have an Eastern boxie that was found in Kansas late last summer and brought to me. The turtle had some recent damage caused by a dog that had chewed on it. When I got the turtle she was ok. Vet check was good and he stated there was not a lot that could/can be done for the shell. She is still doing well,eating,drinking...But I have noticed some small cracks forming on her shell. I am thinking she is not getting enough calcium? Also, does anybody know of anything I could use on her shell to help repair it? Thank's, Bosco

If you could, a picture would really help.

I have a similar problem. Today I noticed that one of my box turtles has a piece of shell missing around the edge. I brought her in the house and am keeping the area clean. It doesn't seem to be bothering her - she is eating well. I have a red earred slider that had a cracked shell when I got her and my vet said to keep her dry and put Neosprin on the area. She healed very quickly. Would I do the same for a boxie?
