Baby Sheds?

graynightblue Feb 21, 2007 09:27 AM

Ok, so right now we have all of our babies in little Sterilites all setting with their back half on heat strips. Cool side is about 80 with the warm side at 88. It's hard to have too much variance in a box this small I've noticed. WEll the thing I'm wondering... do I need to put anything in their for their first shedding? We are using paper towels for substrate with small rat waterbowels. The bowels are fairly heavy so I wouldn't have to worry about them tipping. Is this enough for the babies to hsed off of or should I put something in with a more abrasive surface? Thanks again for everyones help on here, you have all made this into a great learning experience!

The humidity in the boxes should be adequate. Small shoe boxes with water bowls in them generally provide enough humidity. The water bowls and paper towels should give them enough friction to facilitate a good shed.
Good luck!

I would consider misting their enclosures a bit. I did this when my babies were born and got fantastic results. Each baby had a nice and clean whole shed. not the best pic but you get the idea. I kept them all together until they shed then they got their own home. Lots of pepert towels to hide under and such.
