How to Mellow & Fatten?

brak Aug 11, 2003 01:17 PM

Hello, two questions:

1. My Leos have only been home for a few days, but they are a little more hyper or scared than I expected, having read that Leos are mellow and easy to handle, etc. On the plus side, they are fairly active and seem to really enjoy eating crickets, but on the minus side, they are very frightened of being picked up and run away/squirm out of my hand, etc. Any tips for making my leos easier to handle?

2.Like I said, they seem to enjoy eating crickets, but have not eaten any mealworms. As you will see from the pictures I will post later, they have kind of thin tails and I suspect they could be underweight and a little less healthy than is optimal. Any tips on what to feed them to get them nice heathly fat tails?

If you have only had them a few days try not to handle them much they are probably stressed. Also if they are young they will probably calm down as they get older but truthfully your new geckos should try to get away until they get used to you as having one that didn't try to escape might be a sign of bad health. To fatten them up try waxworms on occasion but since they will eat until they are content they will pretty much take care of there own weight unless something is wrong.

They should mellow with age. Keep offering them mealworms and skip the crickets once in a while and they should enjoy those tasty treats as well.
They won't start to get any weight to their tails until they start to slow their growth.
