New user - Meet Chaos

Hey all!

I received my green iguana as a Christmas gift from my girlfriend this last year. I've been wanting one for a while and what a gift!

Meet Chaos:

I had him in a 10 gallon tank for a few weeks before i was able to save up some extra $$$ and build him a cage. I read a lot from www.greenigsociety.org and hopefully i have everything i need to keep a happy, healthy iguana.

Here is what i built him:

I spent about 5 hours building him/her this. i have a heat emitter on top, that provides a basking spot of about 95 degrees.

I have a uvb light (that black hanging thing in the middle) that he likes to stay under.

I have a box that he can hide into if he ever needs to.

i do provide a large bowl if he decides to go swimming. I give him a bath twice a week in warm water.

I also have a heating pad that is located on the floor under all the "dirt" that he likes to sleep on.

The cage is usually about 75-80 degrees, i cant seem to get it higher.

I do mist the cage to keep the humidity high.

I do plan on building him a better "stairs" than the twig i bought at petco. I know it is narrow but chaos enjoys it for now.

I am wondering what am i doing wrong? Any suggestions?

I did try moving the heat emitter to the first level and i think i burnt chaos. It was still at 95 degrees but for some reason his skin turned dark and had small black spots. Chaos isnt as green as he was...

Anyways... sorry if im rambling here with run on sentences.. lol

Any suggestiong on what i should do to improve his health??

i am in the taming process... he still whips his tail at me every time i get close but quickly settles down once i hold him.

I do let him run around my room at time... just yesterday he was lost for 3 hours! I found him behind my sub woofer at my computer! I tore up the whole room looking for him and was panicking!

Sorry for the long intro... i plan on being a regular member and i would like to thank for everyone here for all the information i have gathered in the few past months!

Great job on the cage! He will grow quickly. As far as placing
the heat light so he can't get burned, cut a hole in the
top of the enclosure and place a heavy duty fencing over it
and the place the basking light on top of it. It completely
cuts down on any fire hazard from the ig knocking it over
and also prevent the ig from coming in contact with it.
I attached a picture of Digit's enclosure that we built and
you can see him up in the right hand corner under the basking
light.

Hope this helps
Linda
