WOW!! I think I just soiled myself!

I really want to know what is going on with that Peruvian's genetics, and what it'll look like as it gets older. Such a beautiful array of colors!

Hey!!
.
I look at that snake quite a bit and closely compare it to it's siblings. My opinion is it actually has some kind of hypo-gene in play, despite how dark it started out. It is most evident in the deep clear color of the tail but also in how the saddles are pigmented compared to the normals.
.
Plus the eye color is still unique.
.
25% of the litter came out with that mutation, though they seem to be in at least two phases.. so dark they are almost purple and nearly salmon-pink (like the one pictured in this thread).
.
Interesting stuff. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for taking the time to explain them to me. This one appeared purpleish to me, but I guess you would be the one to know since you can compare it to the siblings.

Based on the ontogenetic color change in Peruvians I expect further change as they age. The most striking trait to me are the eyes. I love boas with solid colored eyes.

You mentioned Hypo, but are you thinking Hypo in terms of melanin or another pigment. I am thinking it may be another pigment due to how dark they were when they were young. Erythin or xanthin levels perhaps.

...What locale is that? Love that tail!

ChrisGilbert Feb 23, 2007 06:56 PM

I know it is Peruvian, not sure of the exact locale, you'll have to wait for Gus on that!
