Hey there Adam, I sent you a message, but wasnt sure if it went through, so I thought I'd post a message too...
I recently noticed that you have 2 pyxies. I've been posting on these forums for a few months now, and wanted to inquire on the growth rates of your two African Bullfrogs.
I read that you have a female that's a few years old. I imagine that's the one youre holding in your palms in your signatures picture. How long have you had her exactly? How quickly did she grow? I noticed her pronounced dorsal stripe, with your experience is this as indicative of a female as I've heard?
Also, how long have you had your male? How much and how quickly did he grow? Any physical differences between them besides size and dorsal striping? ie- skull size, etc.
The reason I ask is because I have had my pyxie for about 4 months now, since he was a little bugger. When I got him he was 2.5 inches snout to vent. Since then he's had a maddening appetite, making my ceratophrys look anorexic. He's now a bit over 5 inches snout to vent, and his appetite isnt slowing down. Ona given week he can eat a solid 5 dozen crickets and some fuzzy mice when appropriate.
So, in short, is this sort of growth rate similar to what has been exhibited with your male? Once your female reached her approximate full size, did her appetite slow down, etc? I noticed that many care sheets and hobbyist say that female pyxies top out in terms of growth a bit under 5 inches, so I was curious if this is a good sign in terms of how quickly he is develoing.
Take care.
