Wondering about handling Mama

Odin22 Feb 22, 2007 03:32 PM

Greetings
As a newbie with a new clutch (20 born on 2/16/07), when is it safe to handle the mother, especially since she ate a RodentPro xxxl guinea pig the day after delivering? I've been informed that moms get aggrivated/protective even after the newborns have been taken away--- I really don't want to be bit, but we haven't handled her now for at least 2 months, and she wasn't the calmest snake before that.

Thanks.

Looking at the boa and wondering if it will bite is like looking at the cookie thinking about what it may taste like.. you have to take a taste to see.
.
Unless the Boa is obviously stressed or angry.. grab it up!
.
That's my advice.

Thank you I'll see what she looks like when I get home---and how long the heavy gloves need to be

Btw, you post some really AMAZING pictures. You really get some RED tails.

Just wanted to thank you again. Had mama out last night. Was a bit tricky to take out, but then she always had been a little "Flail-y". Once she finally settled down, she just hung out. Hell, I was even able to continue doing the laundry and move the clothes around with her on me. Finally let her off me for a slither around the room. She found a place and chilled for a bit, only objecting again when the time came to put her back in the tank--she didn't want to go.

No bites--All good.
