Cutting up worms

symposiumcuibono Feb 22, 2007 05:00 PM

Helloooo

I've been feeding my turtle whole worms (red wigglers). Sometimes it seems he has a little trouble tearing them up to get a good bite because he's so small.

I think I should cut them up, but he loses interest if they aren't wiggling.

Will he be fine? I figure if he was in the wild, someone wouldn't come around to cut up his foraged worms, so he should be ok.

But you never know. Should I give him some extra help?

I use a pair of kitchen shears to cut up nightcrawlers for my babies. They'd have no luck with nightcrawlers otherwise.
Normally I have a pretty strong stomach for stuff like that but for some reason that turns it.

Try feeding him in water, or when he bites the worm place him in water. The water should help him get it down.

Thank you!

Most of the time I do feed him it water because it makes the worm go crazy, and he's all warmed up by that point.

He usually drags it out of the water, though. Hmmm.
