Stressed bull snake??

snake_gal Feb 22, 2007 06:02 PM

Hey guys,
My albino bull snake seems to be stressed out. It's temps are at: 82 on warm and 70-72 on cool side.
He rubbs his nose against the glass and when i take it out(to do cleaning) It seems restless. He eats fine.
Does this sound like stress? Or is it normal for bulls to do that. The snake stopps at night.
I'm worried that it might get too stressed out, and pass away or something.
Can someone please give some tips on how I could help it?
Thanks for any help at all!!

Do you know what sex it is? It may be restless due to the approaching breeding season. That is just a guess. The only thing you may want to try is making the cage a little cooler just to see what happens. Though the temps sound about right to me.. Tom Stevens

I have an under 1 yr old male bull snake. I don't think he is interested in breeding yet. I tried to cool down his room today, I will see how he is when I return home.
Thank you so much for your reply.

I ahve a what i believe is a female bull and she does all that as well constantly. They are active buggers during the day and sleep at night. I am not positive on the breeding thing either i don't tend to breed so i never really did the research on breeding in bulls but i would say he could be close, but i really think that's their personalities.

I don't mind if he does it or not, just he messes up his settup and the bull snake I had b4 passed away, so i want to make sure he's alright.

Most of my bulls wander also. Bulls are very active during the day and some of mine get nose rubs. Your temps sound fine though. If they get hot, some will get aggressive and sometimes they'll just sit in the water bowl. Just watch the nose rubs as those can lead to infections.

sounds normal for a bullsnake, or any pit for that matter, to me. i would be more worried if you said he just laid there all day long... they are very active snakes during the day and when held so he seems healthy from your descriptions...

Good point, if I was shopping for a snake at a show and saw 5 in a container and 4 were laying there and one was striking at everything I'd most likely take the pissy one. All my colubrids cruise their cages, when they don't I check my husbandry.
