HELP!! BRB sick??? Need advise ASAP

dpj912 Feb 22, 2007 08:05 PM

Hi, I just got 2 Brazilian Rainbow Boas about 2 weeks ago, they are about 4-5 months old. They are currently being housed in a 10 gallon aquarium until I get my set-up complete (Vision 322 w/ pro-heat/Helix control). My question is this, when I got the snakes from Fed-Ex priority they were very cold, I was able to warm them up gradually and they appeared fine. They have eaten twice since I got them about 2 weeks ago (fuzzies). One of the snakes began acting strangely today, he/she opens his mouth and "yawns" often, if you listen you can hear a slight noise like bubbles popping from his face, I saw one small bubble next to his nose. He is acting ok but I am very worried about him, any advise would be greatly appreciated. The other snake does not display any of these symptoms at all.

Might be a respiratory infection, mild case of pneumonia. Get a vet check?

GET YOU AND THE BOA TO THE VET. NOW!!!
Sorry to be so dramatic, your BRB has all the symtoms of a respiratory infection. It is something that can kill your herp. The longer you wait the longer the recovery time will be. In fact I suspect that at this stage your Boa will need to be hospitalized. You should go in on an emergency call at this point, if you can. If you can't make sure heat and especially humidity is where it should be. Dry winter air, although I don't know where you live, can cause an inflammation. Humidity should be round about 70%, basking heat 85 degrees and ambient heat 75 to 80. Higher than 88 degrees can be bad though for extended periods.

P.S Get them separated asap so if there is bacterial or viral issues you stand the least chance of infection to the other. Snakes should not be housed together and that is exactly why. You never know when disease might crop up unannounced. GO TO THE VET!!! I IMPLORE YOU GO TO THE VET!!! YOUR SNAKE IS DEPENDING ON YOU!!!
