I have been breeding tortoises for 35 years and have hatched many of all 3 types of Star Tortoises. Believe me when I say that there is no way to tell a Sri Lankan Star from an Indian Star when they are young. Unless you know and trust the person who bred the tortoise or you imported it from Sri Lanka yourself(virtually impossible), do not take anyone's word that they really have Sri Lankan Stars. There are very few documented Sri Lankan Star Tortoises in captivity (at least here in the US), and the breeders of same can be counted on one hand.

Hi zovick, I'm glad to your reply, and I want to mind your advices more. One of my friend said "Despite of Sri-Lanka stars are baby, some methods exist which can classify!" He is elementary breeder, right. But I don't have good facts so I can't refute against his opinion. My friend's think is mistaken?

And I wonder how can classify India-Sri lanka when stars become adult. Can you show pictures which can be compared with two kinds?

Well, I have hatched over 150 each of both Indian and Sri Lankan Stars, and I can't tell them apart. Let him say what he thinks is the difference so we all can share in the great knowledge, but I do not believe it. DNA testing cannot tell Indian and Sri Lankan Stars apart, either. I have had it done.
