Weird shedding. It was about 5 in the morning and I heard this strange rustling noise in Merlyn’s cage so I flipped on the light to see it was just my BRB shedding until I took a second look to see the funniest thing, he was stuck. He had gone around in a circle and back inside his on shed approaching the tail with no way out, he may be a magician but he was not going to get out of this one. I had to rip him out of his shedding. Has anybody ever seen this before? Tom

I've heard of this happening with Milksnakes and Kingsnakes too. I haven't had it happen to me yet, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Silly snake!

It is probably a good thing that you caught it. I found one of my ghost rosy boas dead last summer wrapped up in his own shed. Very disapointing and upseting. I have 80 boas and that is the only time I have ever seen that happen in my collection. So while rare, it is something to be cautious of. The one I lost was also fairly young so I don't know if maybe an older stronger animal would have been able to get out of it ok and maybe mine just exhausted himself trying.

Wow, sounds like it's a good thing you found him. Maybe he could have escaped through the vent? Ugh, ugly image in my mind.

It is hard to imagine that he could have gotten out; he was so tight in this area, that much shedding bunched up was really tough to rip apart. I primarily work with all the hognose breeds and would have expected something like this from them since there not the smartest kids on the block. I house about 130 animals and I have never seen this before and probably won’t see it again but it certainly makes me want to keep a closer eye on every one that is in shed in the future. Tom.
