I never realized how variable GBGs were until I caught this one in Vegas last Summer. Then I started looking around the internet. It seems that there's a heck of alot of selective breeding potential for these snakes.

Simple question...how can you tell if your gopher is a great basin? I've got, based on pictures that I've seen, what I'm 99% sure is a great basin gopher. What's the sure-fire way to tell?

Kev, other than being able to verify the locale that it was collected from, I'm guessing scale counts would be the best way to figure out if it was a deserticola or not.
I agree 100% w/ Tim's observation of how variable these snakes are and the selective breeding potential. I have 1 from HiVista and 1 from W. Lancaster (that I previously thought was a Pacific). Both Great Basins, both look quite different from one another. Can't wait for these girls to be old enough to breed.

Forgot to ask, Tom, what locale is that snake from?
