Morph of the week, a dark one.

EmberBall Feb 24, 2007 07:40 PM

The Sable, that is right, the Sable!

Proven by Eric Burkett in 2002, and proven Co Dom in 2005 by Eric Burkett.

As far as crosses, what I have heard is, there is a Pastel Sable that is ok at best, as far as its appearance. I also heard through unnamed sources, that a Spider/Sable cross was done, and that it is very nice! While I have not seen pics, I can imagine that it would be a cool cross.

The Sable is a nice Hypermelanistic snake, that is proven genetic. There are alot of dark Ball Pythons, but not many have proven out genetic.

I will be the first to admit, I am a "the lighter, and brighter, the better," person when it comes to Ball morphs, however, I really think the Super Sable is just what its name says, and that it will prove a nice cross animal in the very near future. I think that like the Argentine Boa, which is dark, and makes some cool crosses, the Sable will too.

Do I own one? Yes, I actually own a pair, and they are eating machines! I hope eventually to breed them into my Sulfur and Ember Balls, and to produce a nice Super Sable, either sex would be fine by me.

If you have some decent pics of your Sables, please post em, my pics are horrible, and do not do the Sable justice. Also, if you know of any additional crosses, or want to add anything, please feel free. I would like to see some Super Sable pics too...hint hint.

What does the sable belly look like?

EmberBall Feb 24, 2007 08:30 PM

Randy, I just went to take a pic, and of course my two are in the blue, so I did not bother them, besides giving them a quick spray with warm water. But I did notice the bellies are NOT clean, and clear. There is some pattern in the center part of the belly.

I have a some what similar looking male from an odd dad that has an unusually heavy pattern down the belly. I would be interested to know if sables tend to have heavy belly patterns, more consistently so than normals.

Shoot me some pics of yours, including some belly pics.

I have a 1.2 group of Sables...One of the females is around 900-1000 grams and my male is about 400 grams...

There has also been a Cinny Sable produced that is pretty cool...

haha, j/k, kind of...

the sable reminds me of the pastel, great when crossed with the right stuff or bred to the right normals and butt-ugly when wasted for the sake of a quick buck. Which people will do. So I'm passing on the sabel for now.

Oh, the belly isn't that great either.

Nice man! Honestly, the Super Sable looks like a completely different morph, like a Coffee Ball or something. Thanks for adding the pics!

Sables are great, they vary so much which makes them a great morph. Someone had asked about their bellies, i have never seen one that has not had a heavily speckled belly, or some pattern to it. Almost all of the co-doms have clear bellies, so i think it is very interesting that theu do have pattern. The pastel Sable was called the "Mud Ball" and first produced by Kevin, I have heard that a Bumble bee sable was produced and was amazing but I have no proof it could very well be a rumor, Then there is a cinnamon pastel Sable which was produced last year and called a "Dirt Ball", this year i think there will be alot of crosses, i know of breeders trying for pinstipe sables and of corse yellow belly sables to see if the ebony will pop up. Here are a few pics I had on my work computer of some of our Sables. Dave i actually really like those pics of your sable, its a nice looking one, same with you shayne hopefully you will hit on some mud this year The supers look awesome too ... awesome snakes everyone
