States Where RES's Are Illegal

aphillipi Feb 24, 2007 09:10 PM

I know that RES's are illegal in Oregon, Washington, and California, but are there any other states that prohibit them? Any input would be great! Thanks!

Wow, I didn't know they were illegal in any state. Is it out of fear that released RES will breed & compete with native species? I could see that in CA I guess, but doesn't it get too cold for them in OR & WA?

Also, since we're on legal, is the baby turtle ban still in effect? Because I've seen them for sale just lately...

Yep, still in effect in California, but no private breeder has ever paid attention to it. There has actually been a salmonella outbreak in California due to peanut butter. Who would have thought right??? I had one friend purchase his slider at a flea market and signed some kind of informed consent paper, not to sure on what was stated on the paper though. It wasn't official, but a generic paper with all kinds of signatures of people who have bought turtles from this guy.
