New BRB keeper!! Tips?

fatbot_n_beets Feb 24, 2007 09:34 PM

We're so excited, our 2.5 foot BRB girl is beautiful and healthy. Quite nippy as well, however we're hoping that will wear off slowly with patience and handling (she even tries to strike from behind the glass, but ends up smacking her nose...aww). She ate her first meal last night, quite readily!

We have her in a 20L with cypress mulch from home depot (enough for her to dig under, i notice she likes that), a little hide cave, and a big enough water dish for her to soak in. I mist her substrate daily and try to keep the humidity around 70-80 (usually closer to 70), the temps in the LOW 80s during the day and no lower than 75 at night.

Does it sound like we've got it right so far? Are there any accessories i'm missing that you may recommend, like something for her to climb? Like i said, i noticed she likes to dig so i wasn't sure...but i'd love to hear (or read, rather) any comments or tips you have for us, from taming to housing. Thanks all! ~~~~~~~:>

Everything sounds pretty good. I would make sure you have some kind of top on your 20L though, and don't encourage her when she wants to strike behind the glass either just let her settle down (I know you probably don't). They like that mulch so they can bury themselves away from people traffic, bright lights, and other disturbances that happen during the day so they can sleep. Make sure to wash your hands good before picking your brb up and some of them like to climb. I use a big water bowl also and found that they like to wedge themselves under that bowl too (on cold side), just leave some room under there propped up by mulch and use spaghnum moss for the humidity and toilet paper and it should be changed often.

Thanks for responding and YES, she's actually half buried under her water dish right now lol. I cover her cage w/the lock-in screen top it came with, and i also partially cover that with some acrylic square panels i found from past art projects. Appreciate your help
